Welcome to DC Reads!
DC Reads is a district-wide collaborative tutoring program that consists of several universities, their students, the DC Public School System, and a number of community-based organizations united under one goal of elementary school literacy. Tutors sponsored by several DC universities travel to their various sites a few times a week to work with local elementary and middle school students one-on-one or in small groups to improve their academic performance. Though we like our tutors to focus on reading and literacy skills, in the past, tutors have also worked to help local students improve their skills in other academic areas, including math, history, and technology. At CUA the DC Reads program is run as part of the Campus Ministry department. We hire undergraduate tutors as part of our work-study program. We also take volunteers. You can work at multiple sites based on your university schedule and availability.

If you feel that you are good with children and can be their friend and their tutor, and hope to gain a feeling of accomplishment for your service, then DC Reads is the program for you!"
